NIFT exam overview
NIFTEE (National Institute of Fashion Technology Entrance Examination) is a national-level exam for admission to NIFT’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. For 2026, the National Testing Agency conducted it on behalf of NIFT. Design applicants take the General Ability Test (GAT) and Creative Ability Test (CAT), followed by a Situation Test (B.Des) or interview (M.Des) if shortlisted; B.F.Tech uses GAT only; M.F.M and M.F.Tech use GAT followed by interview.

Other programmes (B.F.Tech, M.Des, M.F.M, M.F.Tech) have their own GAT/CAT/interview weightages. See the official NIFTEE 2026 Information Bulletin for the full breakdown. GAT is computer-based; CAT is pen-and-paper; papers are bilingual (Hindi/English, English controlling).
Who can take NIFT?
- B.Des: recognised Class XII or equivalent, any stream; age under 24 on 1 August 2026 (SC/ST/PwD: +5 years relaxation).
- B.F.Tech: Class XII or equivalent with Mathematics; same age rule as B.Des.
- M.Des / M.F.M: undergraduate degree in any discipline, or a 3-year diploma from NIFT/NID; no upper age limit.
- M.F.Tech: B.F.Tech or equivalent B.E./B.Tech; no upper age limit.
The 2026 regular-programme rules do not state a separate maximum-attempt limit. Foreign National, NRI, OCI, PIO and SAARC applicants follow separate category rules.
