UCEED exam overview

UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by IIT Bombay under the UCEED-CEED Implementation Committee, used for admission to Bachelor of Design programmes at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Indore, IIT Roorkee and IIITDM Jabalpur (2026 cycle). It assesses visualisation, observation, reasoning, creativity, drawing and design aptitude. Students from all Class XII streams may take it, subject to age and attempt rules; individual institutes may apply extra subject requirements for admission.

NAT: +4 correct, no negative marking. MSQ: +4 fully correct, partial credit for some correct combinations, −1 for other incorrect cases. MCQ: +3 correct, −0.71 incorrect. Part A is used to shortlist candidates; Part B is evaluated only for shortlisted candidates and marked manually by at least two experts, with no re-evaluation available.

Who can take UCEED?

  • Qualification: first Class XII (or equivalent) appearance in 2025 or 2026, any stream.
  • Age: OPEN/EWS/OBC-NCL born on or after 1 October 2001; SC/ST/PwD born on or after 1 October 1996.
  • Attempts: maximum two, in consecutive years.
  • Score validity: UCEED 2026 score is valid only for 2026–27 admission.
  • Nationality: open to all nationalities meeting the eligibility rules.

B.Des admission also requires passing all five qualifying-exam subjects; some institutes (IIT Guwahati, IIT Roorkee) additionally require Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, and IIITDM Jabalpur requires PCM or Biology.
