What is the update?
India’s science ministries reviewed preparations for the nationwide Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar coastal cleanliness campaign, scheduled for 10–19 September 2026.
Purpose of the campaign
The initiative is intended to combine coastal environmental conservation with public awareness and community participation. The PIB release says it is expected to involve scientific institutions, government agencies, volunteers, educational institutions and local communities along India’s coastline.
Wider science coordination
The review meeting also focused on stronger coordination among national scientific institutions. Departments discussed joint initiatives, knowledge sharing, public communication and ways to make scientific programmes more accessible to citizens.
